3Of9 - To print barcodes a number of free true-type fonts are available on the internet. However,
before you rely on them, be sure to test them extensively because over the years
vendors have disabled valuable characters to encourage you to purchase their commercial
product. 3of9 was introduced into the public domain by Paul Andre LeBlanc
in 1993. This download incorporates his original distribution along with some
documentation from Altek Instruments Ltd from 1999 that explains "Extended Code
39" (lower case alpha and more special characters than are available in the 43 regular
3of9 codes). If you need to print "Extended Code 39", remember to check the
3of9 font for your scanner. It may require you to set a "Full-ASCII" option
to read the extended codes. Everything else you need to know to print barcodes
is available in the download.
PPC - This download includes two enhancements for the Pocket PC.
After you unzip the download, simply double-click on PPCHelp.chm for detailed instructions
to install the enhancements.
- Tab Keyboard Remapping
The tab and reverse-tab are excellent alternatives to the
stylus to navigate between controls. Besides tabbing to a textbox to enter
data or scan a barcode, you can tab to a button or hyperlink and activate
it just by clicking the "Enter" key. However, on most keypads, the tab and
reverse tab require simultaneous use of two keys. All Pocket PC's have a
four-way or five-way navigation system centered below the screen. The
and
keys
move the cursor one character left in a typed field and the
and
keys move
the curser one character right. This enhancement simply remaps the
to be a tab
key and the
to be a reverse-tab key so that they are available with one keystroke.
- NULLSIP
Install this enhancement only if your device has an integral
keypad. Whenever a control that requires alphanumeric characters gets
control, the soft input panel (SIP) is automatically activated at the bottom
of the screen, if your device has an integral keypad, you can make much better
use of that portion of the screen. Earlier versions of the Pocket PC operating
system did not provide the capability to enable or disable the SIP. This
enhancement provides a data entry alternative, the NULLSIP, which disables the
SIP. However, NULLSIP does not deactivate the SIP. It is still available as
a data entry alternative.
